[Rainbow Christmas 2019] Five Holiday-Horror Themed Cocktails
Black Christmas (1974) - Sherry “Mrs. Mac” Darling
We’re starting this list of holiday-horror cocktails off with a delightfully sweet, and unapologetically alcoholic, house mother special, the Sherry “Mrs. Mac” Darling. No need to hide your liquor in a book, or the toilet tank, this citrousy sour delight of a beverage is the perfect partner to the 1974 holiday horror classic, Black Christmas.
Ingredients:
Lemon (½)
Orange (¼)
2 Ounces of Sherry (fino-style or any dry recommended)
1 Ounce Simple Syrup
Slice the lemon and orange into chunks and muddle them in a highball glass. Follow up by adding your sherry and simple syrup, topping it off with cracked or crushed ice. Swizzle it, call your cat a prick, add a little more ice, and don’t forget to garnish with a slice of orange and lemon.
Gremlins (1984) - Mogwai Mudslide
If Gizmo singing Mogwai songs while donning a miniature Santa hat doesn’t steal your heart, then this super sweet take on an already delicious adult milkshake will. No need to travel to the shops of Chinatown; this treat can be made at home and is meant to be shared, cozied up under a blanket while watching our favorite green monsters tear up the small town of Kingston Falls.
Ingredients:
1 Ounce Vodka
1 Ounce Coffee Liqueur
1 Ounce Irish Cream Liqueur
1 Ounce Butterscotch Schnapps
1 Scoop Vanilla Ice Cream
Pour the four distilled spirits into a blender, adding a scoop of your favorite vanilla ice cream along with a splash of half and half and a handful of ice. Blend until creamy, then pour the smooth mixture into a hurricane glass with a light layer of chocolate syrup drizzled up against the inside of the glass.
Be advised: this delicious dessert, much like our adorable Mogwai, should be enjoyed responsibly.
Jack Frost (1997) - Shot of Antifreeze
Hoping to apparently keep his sheriff father warm during the cold nights of Snowmonton, little Ryan almost killed his father by spiking his oatmeal with antifreeze. Because that’s a normal thing to do. We’d say spoiler alert but this snowman slasher came out in 1997…and honestly, within the first few minutes of watching it, you’re going to need multiple Shots of Antifreeze to make it through the rest of the 90 minutes. But seriously, where were the parents?! There was even antifreeze on the stove top while he was making the oatmeal. How oblivious are you, Mama Anne?
Ingredients:
½ Ounce Midori
½ Ounce Malibu Rum
½ Ounce Dark Rum
Spritz the rim of a shot glass with lemon juice, then pour in the ingredients for a delightfully smooth shot, followed by a slightly bitter lick of your lips.
Santa’s Slay (2005) - Icy Hot Eggnog
“Looks like grandpa got run over by a reindeer.” Former WWE superstar, Bill Goldberg, suits up as Santa in this holiday themed horror comedy…except the only gifts he’s giving are in the form of back breakers and Spartan kicks. Get fired up with this spicy remix of the holiday beverage classic, Icy Hot Eggnog.
Ingredients:
1 Ounce Vanilla Vodka
1 Ounce Fireball
4 Ounces Eggnog
Whipped Cream
Nutmeg
Add ingredients into a glass over ice, top with whipped cream, then garnish with grated nutmeg. If you’re feeling sweet, add a caramel drizzle to the glass and whipped cream. Enjoy around the table while experiencing the numbing ignorance of awkward family conversations or while petting hell-deer who are just trying to spread some yuletide fear.
Krampus (2015) - Candied Peppermint Martini
Naughty or nice, Krampus comes not to reward, but to punish. Not to give, but to take. Whether you’re stuck in a snow plow or listening to fireside German folk tales from Omi, this festive martini doesn’t lack the holiday spirit(s).
Ingredients:
White Chocolate Chips or Candy Melts
Peppermint Sticks
Rum Chata
Creme de Cacao
Peppermint Schnapps
Cream or Half and Half
Start by melting the white chocolate chips or candy melts in the microwave. Place the martini glass upside-down onto the melted white chocolate covering the rim. While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle crushed peppermint sticks over the white chocolate. Place the decadent glass in the refrigerator to cool the chocolate while preparing the cocktail. Pour in the Rum Chata, Creme de Cacao, Peppermint Schnapps, and cream into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake it like a Krampus bell and empty the contents into your candied martini glass. Enjoy with your favorite gingerbread cookies…just be sure to check if they’re alive first.
