[News] World of Wonder Previews Their Upcoming Doc Wojnarowicz: F**k You F*ggot F**ker

“I wake up every morning in this killing machine called America and I’m carrying this rage like a blood-filled egg.”

”If the work we make as artists doesn’t contribute to the resistance, we’re helping a system of control become more perfect.”
— David Wojnarowicz

In honor of what would have been iconic artist David Wojnarowicz’s 66th birthday, World of Wonder posted a preview of their upcoming documentary film Wojnarowicz: F**k You F*ggot F**ker. The film will be making its festival rounds this winter.

Wojnarowicz shared his experiences and observations of the world in a kaleidoscope of words and images, art & essays, films & installations that confronted America’s illusion of a “One-Tribe Nation” and our “pre-invented existence” of racial & economic inequalities, injustice, corruption, greed and oppression.

Chris McKim, the director of the upcoming documentary, had this to say about the time he “met” David: “I first met David in the fall of 2017, some 35 years after his death from AIDS at the age of 37 and several months into working on a documentary about his life. That’s when I started listening to the nearly 200 audio cassettes he left behind; a collection of intimate tape journals, conversations, mixtapes, band rehearsals & more. Those cassettes took me on his journey: hoppin’ trains at 21; rehearsals with his band, 3 Teens Kill 4; looking for love and cruising for sex; and most of all, finding his way, his voice and his purpose as an artist while AIDS became a full blown pandemic ignored by the republican administration & Christian right.”

David Wojnarowicz experienced more life in a moment than some people do in their entire lives. . A prolific multimedia artist, writer and activist throughout the 1980s, Wojnarowicz (VOY-nah-ROH-vich) shared his experiences and observations of the world in a kaleidoscope of words and images, art & essays, films & installations. Through this vast body of work until his last dying breath, he confronted America’s illusion of a “One-Tribe Nation” and our “pre-invented existence” of racial & economic inequalities, injustice, corruption, greed and oppression. .
