Gayly Helpful 2021 Begins!
Whew.
Two years ago, I reached out to some friends to see if we could do something special for Pride. The end result was Gayly Helpful, a celebration of queer horror writers donating their time and their immense talents to raise money for the Trevor Project. I didn’t know what to expect, yet we managed to raise over $2,000. Last year, I was hoping we could go bigger and we did. We almost doubled the number of contributors and ended up raising over $5,000.
So here we are with the third edition of Gayly Helpful and I think it might be the biggest one yet. Throughout June we will have at least two articles posting every single day. That’s around 60 writers who’ve provided thought-provoking articles about our favorite genre to raise awareness of trans rights. Yes, this year we’re not focusing on the Trevor Project and instead turning our attention to the Transgender Law Center.
From their site: Transgender Law Center (TLC) is the largest national trans-led organization advocating for a world in which all people are free to define themselves and their futures. Grounded in legal expertise and committed to racial justice, TLC employs a variety of community-driven strategies to keep transgender and gender nonconforming people alive, thriving, and fighting for liberation.
Given all of the trans-exlusionary bills that are floating through the country, I felt that this organization would give us the biggest impact of our dollars, as they are fighting for trans and gender nonconforming people.
With that in mind, the fundraiser is live and ready to take your donations. We are using Tiltify, which collects the funds and sends them directly to the Transgender Law Center. It also is streaming friendly and we should have some Twitch streamers streaming for the cause, as well.
The direct link to donate is right here.
Articles will post throughout June at 11 AM Central and 2 PM Central. Make sure to follow along on Twitter and Instagram with the #GaylyHelpful2021 hashtag. Please read, like and RT all of the articles. And donate because, at the end of the day, that’s what makes this whole thing possible.
Let’s make Gayly Helpful 2021 the best Pride Month yet.
